About Us
If you are coming to therapy to have a different experience of yourself, your life or your relationships, you’ve come to the right place. At Harbord Therapy, our therapists draw on different therapeutic modalities and their own clinical and personal experience to connect with each client. We describe our approach as active in the therapy process. This means that while we do listen intently and ask thoughtful questions, we also offer reflective feedback, connections and provide psychoeducation when appropriate. We strive to be relatable, honest, and transparent, and our goal is for therapy to have a meaningful impact in your real life.
While clients may experience benefits and see change from therapy after just a few sessions, therapy is an ongoing process that is often not linear. At times, things may feel better and at times things may feel worse. Therapy can be joyful and fun, and also uncomfortable and challenging. It’s important to be aware that this is normal. It is possible for things to feel worse before they feel better, although overall the benefits of therapy should outweigh the difficult moments. In many instances, the role of therapy is to work with an emotion, experience, or person and not get rid of it, in a way that feels better and more manageable to you.
At Harbord Therapy, we don’t do anything with clients that we haven’t experienced firsthand ourselves. We are committed to our own self exploration and self-study through ongoing therapy, supervision, training, and reading.
Our Therapeutic Approach
As therapists, our role is to offer insights, reflect patterns that we notice in behaviour, relationships, family, communication and thoughts, and provide knowledge, skills, and tools in collaboration with you to empower you to live the life of your dreams. Most importantly, our intention for all clients is to feel connected, engaged, understood, and that counselling is addressing your needs and goals.
Present-Focused Growth
Our practice focuses on bringing attention to the present moment, and what is going on here and now in your life, and the therapy room. We believe that we all want the same things at our core: to be accepted, valued, and loved. When issues, challenges or resistance come into our lives, we believe it is an opportunity for growth.
